After looking back to the 1980s (Gaoul? Mizik) and 1990s (Akiyo) in the first two volumes of the Excursions in Gwoka series, our third edition puts focus on a contemporary collaboration between celebrated Guadeloupean gwoka artists Djenmbi (synth wizard and composer of Akiyo's 'D?boul?') and Klod Kiavu? (master ka player) with the Montreal based electronic duo Topium.
'Bo Bay Lamen' ("to give a hand" in English) is a traditional folkloric song which is part of Guadeloupe's patrimoine. The quartet's cover already expanded the song into new Balearic territory, while fresh remixes from Kay Suzuki and Aroop Roy (for his BATB debut) give the track a more Afro cosmic and dance-floor appeal.
‘Ti Bedon’ is a modern electronic gwoka fusion tune, which like was 'Bo Bay Lamen' was a highlight of the quartet's digi only album from 2022.
